In Rawlins

Rawlins is a small town in Carbon County Wyoming with a population of around 9,259 (2021 census). Originally named Rawlins Springs, the city was founded in 1867 after General John A. Rawlins. Troops, at the time, were protecting the surveying crew of the transcontinental railroad, and their General made a wish for some cold drinking water. Some of his scouts rode out to find a Springs, which just so happened to be where the 5,120-acre city is now.

Carbon County Museum

Located at 904 W Walnut St, Rawlins, WY 82301. At the Carbon County Museum, you'll find exhibits on the history of the area, a military room, and an area for kids to explore. The museum currently has a virtual exhibit of the Union Pacific Railroad. Check their website for hours, as they vary by season.

Wyoming Frontier Prison

Opening in 1901, Wyoming's first state penitentiary with over 100 cells, and is now a museum. There are some colorful stories about Wyoming Frontier Prison and the inmates that you likely won't forget. Tours are available, as well as cell rentals and a gift shop.

Golf

Rochelle Ranch Golf Course named #1 golf course in 2020 by Golf Advisor. The course offers clubs and carts for rent and has 17 holes, a driving range, putting green, and a bunker.

Tully Park

A recreational park with playground equipment for children, a pavilion with tables, and a drinking fountain. If trains are your passion, there's also a railroad engine on display at Tully Park. Find the park between W. Elm Street and El Rancho Drive in Rawlins.
